Short Nose Surgery in Gangnam, Korea (2025 Guide)

Lengthen and Reshape with Expert Cartilage Grafting

A short nose, sometimes referred to as an upturned or overly rotated nose, is a nasal shape where the tip appears too high, short, or even pig-like in profile. It can be congenital or the result of trauma or prior overly aggressive rhinoplasty. In Gangnam, Korea — home to some of the world’s leading rhinoplasty surgeons — short nose correction is performed with high precision using advanced cartilage grafting and tip extension techniques to restore balance and elegance to the face.

This guide will explain:

  • What causes a short nose
  • How Korean surgeons correct it
  • What grafting techniques are used
  • 2025 cost estimates
  • Top Gangnam clinics
  • What to expect during recovery

What Is a Short Nose?

Key features include:

  • A tip that is over-rotated or angled upward
  • A visibly shortened nasal bridge
  • Overexposed nostrils from the front view
  • A "piggy nose" look in profile

Patients with short noses often feel their facial proportions are off-balance, and the goal of correction is to create a longer, more proportionate nasal structure that blends naturally with the face.

How Is a Short Nose Corrected?

Short nose correction is one of the more complex rhinoplasty procedures. It requires rebuilding internal support and lengthening the nose using a combination of grafting and tissue repositioning.

1. Septal Extension Graft

  • A cartilage graft is placed at the base of the septum to extend and support the nasal tip.
  • This helps rotate the tip downward and add length to the nose.

2. Columellar Strut Graft

  • Reinforces and supports the central tip area.
  • Used in combination with other grafts for tip stability and alignment.

3. Tip Grafting and Projection Control

  • Cartilage from the ear or rib is shaped and added to project and refine the nasal tip.
  • Helps achieve both structural support and aesthetic improvement.

4. Scar Tissue Release (in secondary cases)

  • In revision cases, old scar tissue may need to be carefully released.
  • Often necessary when previous surgeries caused upward rotation or collapse.

5. Closed vs. Open Rhinoplasty

  • Most short nose corrections are done with an open rhinoplasty approach for full visibility and graft placement accuracy.

ABOUT "SHORT NOSE"

Get rid of your short and upturned nose and discover the golden ratio!

A short and uptumed nose will make the nostrils very visible. In this case, surgery is performed to lengthen the nose tip and improve the overall shape of the nose.

In most cases, a short nose appears upturned with nostrils appearing visible from the front. Normally, the angle between the nose tip and the lips is within the range of 90~100", but for a short nose, it is around 105~110", and this is why the nostrils are highly visible, which not only is aesthetically undesirable, but also causes stress to the individual. If it is less severe, a simple nose tip correction procedure can help improve the appearance, but in severe cases, all of the structural components of the nose (incl. skin, cartilage, nose bridge, mucosal membrane, and nasal septum) must be corrected and improved. In most cases, this type of nose appears short and small, so it is important for the surgeon to have the necessary know-how and experience in collecting a sufficient amount of nasal septal cartilage, while ensuring safety.

SURGICAL PROCEDURE

If the alar cartilages forming the tip of the nose flare up, it will lead to an upturned nose.

In this case, the upper part of the alar cartilages is cut and the lower ends are fixed downward to make the cartilages appear elongated at the bottom.

If it is not sufficient to just lengthen the nose tip by cartilage plasty, an additional cartilage is grafted between the nasal septal cartilage and alar cartilages as a way to elongate the tip of the nose. The cartilage used in the grafting is typically the nasal septal cartilage.

A rhinoplasty procedure is performed after the nasal cartilage plastic surgery and cartilage grafting if the patient wants a taller nose bridge and tip. In this case, an implant is inserted in the nose bridge area, while an ear cartilage is typically used on the tip of the nose.
